Officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony Monday to mark the beginning of the Seneca Knolls drainage improvement project in the town of Van Buren. (From left) Jim Billings (Van Buren engineer), Highway Superintendent Ed Parks, DOT Resident Engineer Larry Hasard, Supervisor Claude Sykes, Sen. John DeFrancisco and Councilor Ronald Dudzinski each scooped up a shovel full of dirt to mark the start of the project, which should be underway by Thursday or Friday this week. Sen. DeFrancisco was able to secure a $100,000 multi-modal grant for the project because the drainage system crosses State Route 48. Phase one of the Seneca Knolls drainage and road improvement project is expected to be finished by the end of August. The project includes drainage and road work along Baker Boulevard, Rufus Circle and Walker Boulevard.
