For the first time in the history of the Diocese of Syracuse, the son of a Permanent Deacon will be ordained a Roman Catholic priest. On Saturday June 7, Christopher Celentano, son of Deacon Joseph and Diane Celentano of Lyncourt, will walk in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception doors as a transitional deacon and leave as an ordained priest.
Bishop Thomas J. Costello willcelebrate the Mass of Ordination at 10am in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Downtown Syracuse. (Bishop Moynihan is unable to celebrate the Mass due to his recovery from a recent knee surgery.) After the Mass, the newly ordained priest will be handed a white envelope containing his first assignment as a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse.
Christopher Celentano is the youngest of three children, having both a brother and a sister. He is a native of Lyncourt and a 'native son' of St. Daniel Church. His life long pastor, Monsignor Eugene Yennock is credited with being a very strong influence with Chris and many others in supporting their call to the priesthood in the diocese.
Christopher attended St. Daniel School and graduated from Bishop Grimes High School in 1997. He received a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management in 2001 and completed his theological studies at St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore. He received both his Bachelor in Sacred Theology (STB) and a Masters in Divinity.
