In a moment of spontaneity, Jim Delia changed the dynamic of his pizza shop.
Having attended numerous auctions for the purpose of picking up used kitchen equipment at bargain prices, Delia headed to Herkimer with just that intent. However, when he arrived and laid his eyes on a Mahogany masterpiece, he couldn't help but bid on the wooden bar that would leave him no choice but to expand his Pizza Man shop in the village of Baldwinsville.
"I really had no intentions of opening a bar, but I went to the Broztek auction and fell in love with a bar and bought it," Delia said.
That was in January of 2007. After undergoing construction from July to October, Pizza Man Pub is now completely renovated and ready to celebrate 25 years in business this Saturday. In fact, Delia and his crew were just finishing up the final aspects of the renovation, which included knocking down the wall between the pub and pizza shop.
"The whole window area will now be visible from pub," Delia said.
Obtaining a liquor license in December, Pizza Man has grown from seven employees to 20 since the pub opened.
"The business has been tremendous -- I can't believe the support," Delia said. "We've had problems fitting crowds in here on Saturday nights."
To celebrate 25 successful years in business, Pizza Man will host an anniversary party this Saturday (June 7).
Utilizing an outdoor tent, participants can enjoy 50-cent slices from 2 to 5 p.m., enjoy a live 93Q broadcast from 4 to 6 p.m. followed from 6 to 8 p.m. with a live 95X broadcast. Prizes will be given away all day long and a raffle will be underway offering a first-place prize of a 32-inch LCD HDTV, second-place prize of a GPS portable system and third place prize of a $50 Pizza Man gift card.
