Be sure to claim a section of sidewalk Saturday evening.
In conjunction with the Syracuse Nationals, Baldwinsville Happy Days Cruise is an event that will feature parading antiques, trucks and hot rods alike right in the center of the village. While there is no direct tie with the Syracuse Nationals (held at the New York State Fair this weekend), Happy Days Cruise organizer Dennis Sick hopes Baldwinsville's event will help add to the overall economic boost the Nationals give to Central New York.
"(Baldwinsville Happy Days Cruise) was designed to give locals and visiting cars an opportunity to display themselves rolling," Sick said. "It is our hope that the visiting cars and spectators visit the many eateries in town. We also hope that the promotion of this event brings more attention to the Nationals so that it can continue to grow and create a great economic stimulus for the local economy."
The idea of Baldwinsville Happy Days Cruise was born a couple of months ago.
"As a collector and enthusiast of antique cars, I saw (this event) as a good match, historic cars in a historic village," Sick said. "I had thrown the idea out to several members of various car groups in CNY and they too loved the idea."
Since then, the Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce and around 30 clubs have been promoting the idea, as have various local businesses. Sick has also incorporated the help of the Baldwinsville Police Department to prevent tear outs and reckless driving.
"The village police department has been extremely cooperative," Sick said. "I would like to thank Chief (Michael) Lefencheck and Lt. (Thomas) Leroy."
Baldwinsville Happy Days Cruise will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday along a continuous route along Route 370/31 (from intersection of two routes to Route 48) and Route 48 (from the four corners to Smokey Hollow Road plaza). Pre-registration is limited to CNY Car Club members and Syracuse National participants. All pre-registered cars will be entered in a drawing for prizes and winners will be announced at the beginning of the cruise. For those who want to participate in the Baldwinsville Happy Days Cruise, you can pre-register at MoheganManor58@aol.com.
"I think it will be the beginning of a special night that will be revisited annually," Sick said. "Everyone is invited. I hope the sidewalks are lined with spectators."
