As Omanii's Lemonade Heaven embarks on their third year of business some new offerings will be added to the menu. There will be items not only for the palate, but for the mind as well.
One: Food for the body and soul-a poetic feast.
Omanii Abdullah noted local poet will be conducting a combined poetry workshop and cooking class for youngsters aged 8 to 13 beginning in January and running through March.
The workshop will take place at Omanii's Lemonade Heaven, 1206 South Avenue, Syracuse. The classes will meet twice a month on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m.
The first hour of the workshop will be devoted to learning how to prepare some basic food dishes and the second hour to writing "Life Experience Poetry." The three-month workshop will culminate in "A Poetic Feast" with the participants performing their poetry and sharing a display of their culinary skills. This will take place at Beauchamp Library and will be open to the public. The participants will have their poems and recipes published in a keepsake booklet.
Enrollment is limited to 20 students per session and the cost is $75 for the three months (seven sessions) workshops which includes: notebooks, pens, aprons, booklet, lunch and culminating event.

Two: Open mic for youngsters is the third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. There are limited inner city venues for young poets to interact with other poets in a supervised environment. All young poets 8 to13 years of age. Bring your own poetry or read your favorite poems. There will be a Round table discussion of poetry by participants. There is no cost.
