Sylvan Beach trustee Frank V. Gatto announced last week his decision not to seek re-election when his term expires in March.
I've given it a lot of thought, and I think it's time for a new face on this end of the table, Gatto told the board of trustees at its Jan. 7 work session. It's been a good experience.
Gatto will have served five years as a village trustee. He was appointed to the board for one year in 2003 and was elected to consecutive two-year terms in 2004 and 2006.
Gatto denied his decision had anything to do with conflict over the board's vote last summer to permit the Sylvan Beach Amusement Park the use of village park land.
I'm not resigning because of anything in the past, Gatto said.
He was the only board member to vote against the measure.
Since that decision, relations between Gatto and the rest of the board have appeared strained at times. The board has since revoked the license agreement and has asked that the amusement park's miniature golf course be removed from village park land.
Last month, veteran Trustee E. Allen Jackson had also announced his decision to retire from the five-member board at the conclusion of the present term.
Village elections are scheduled for March 18.
