Manlius Town Board holds organizational meeting

Democrat Mark Tetley was sworn in as the new Manlius Town Supervisor Jan. 2 in a ceremony preceding the Manlius Town Board's swift annual organizational meeting. The inauguration also included Republicans and incumbents John Loeffler, Sandra Schepp and Nick Marzola as town councilors. Loeffler and Schepp have been on the board since 2000, Marzola since 2003.

Rules of Decorum

In April 2007, the town board approved a set of rules to coincide with regular monthly meetings, specifically in regards to public comment periods, public hearings and public information meetings. As of Jan. 2, some of the rules changed.

Prior to the latest amendments, town board members were not required to answer questions at the meeting. If someone wished to address a town board member or another town official with a question, they could do so in person before or after the meeting, by phone, mail or email.

Now, residents may address Tetley with questions, comments and or opinions, when appropriate. Tetley may then direct the question to the appropriate person to respond.

Other adjustments to the rules include turning off cell phones and pagers. Also, any revisions made to the minutes will be at the discretion of the town clerk. Comments regarding the minutes should be submitted to the town clerk before the meeting begins.
