The suspect arrested following a two-alarm fire that ripped through a duplex at 113 Freeman Ave. in the village on Jan. 3 has pled guilty.
Chad A. Balitz, 20, of 121 Freeman Ave. in Solvay, pleaded guilty to third-degree arson at the Onondaga County Criminal Courthouse on Feb. 20. He will be sentenced by Judge Anthony Aloi on March 19. The jury in the case ruled that Balitz should be sentenced to no less than two to six years and no more than three to nine.
The house Balitz was convicted of setting on fire was vacant at the time. According to reports, Balitz sprayed paint thinner near the rear of the home before igniting the blaze on Jan. 3.
