"I bought a house here in 1978," she said. "I have recently become an active member of St. Lucy's, a church on the west side of Syracuse, and there I have been able to do work that is so important to me. We have a soup kitchen each Wednesday that I helped organize, and I have offered poetry workshops for children there in the summers."

"I am now working on a new collection of poems, tentatively titled 'From the Land of Homesick Souls.' A collection, 'The Brother Inside Me,' will be out later this year from Guernica Editions. Guernica published my most recent book of poems, 'Gambler's Daughter,' in 2001," deVries said. "And I am working on an idea for a new Teeny Tiny Tino book, 'Tino Gets a Truck,' and hope I can make that happen."
