The excitement came in the last four minutes. With WG still clinging to that 2-1 lead, Ithaca got whistled for a penalty, giving the Wildcats a power play in which they took full advantage of.
Tim Besio took a pass from Conor Thompson and fired a shot past Wilder and into the net, putting the Wildcats up 3-1 with just over three minutes to play, but the Little Red wasn't about to concede the game.
Just 94 seconds later, Ithaca got back within one when A.J. Fiore scored, but the Wildcats' defense, led by Michel and Tim Bubnack, held off Ithaca's final surge to come out on the victorious end. Goaltender John Schlegel finished with 20 saves, while Ithaca's Wilder notched 15 saves.
WG now gets home-ice advantage when, this Saturday at 7:30, it faces Section II champion Shenendehowa at Shove Park in Camillus. The winner advances to next weekend's state final four at Utica Memorial Auditorium.
