Onondaga County honors a hero

I am honored to accept the New York State Senate Liberty Award and do so on behalf of the entire team of volunteers who generously gave their time, talents and financial support to help a local family most of us didn't even know, McClurg said at Thursday's award ceremony. We just wanted to make things a little easier for the Luchsinger family to stay together and found they gave us even more by opening their hearts and home to each of us. Our hope is that others will be inspired by our efforts to give back to the community and make a difference in someone's life because the need is so great.

Scott has been active in the community for several years. He led the volunteer effort for the Baltimore Woods Nature Preserve renovation. He has participated in Habitat for Humanity and for the last few years he has been very active in the local YouthBuild project in Syracuse.

"I'd do it again in a heartbeat," McClurg said. "I'd be happy to talk to anyone who would want to do the same for another family. This is why we live in Central New York--we're surrounded by good people."
