Beaucoup Blue is the Philadelphia-based duo of David and Adrian Mowry. Although strongly rooted in the blues, father and son bridge many genres of American music. Drawing on a shared love of folk, soul, R&B, jazz, country and bluegrass, their music blends traditional and contemporary styles, emerging in an innovative and authentic sound. This is emotionally transcendent music, combining superb guitar work with seamless vocal harmonies that is thrilling to hear. Beaucoup Blue will be performing at 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at The Westcott Community Center, 826 Euclid Ave., Syracuse.
Beaucoup Blue's musical philosophy is embodied in a love of acoustic roots, blues and swing, presented in an uncluttered, less-is-more style. They mix topnotch originals with inventive, distinctively styled covers of songs by Benny Goodman, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Kid Ory and others. Skilled multi-instrumentalists, Adrian plays six and twelve-string guitar, while long-experienced blues master David handles six-string, slide guitar and dobro. Both men share the vocals and songwriting duties. Their soulful voices blend together as only family members can, combining grit and spirit. David's tenor is big and warm and Adrian's falsetto is sweet and soulful.
Beaucoup Blue has been performing for the past decade, appearing at top venues and festivals, including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the King Biscuit Blues Festival, the Tin Angel and the NorthEast Regional Folk Alliance Conference. They were winners of the 2006 Telluride Blues and Brews Festival Acoustic Blues Competition and a finalist in the 2007 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase.
Admission to the show is $10 (WCC members: $8). For reservations, call the Westcott Community Center at 478-8634.
