Canastota students collect food for needy

It's that time of year again. The second annual Holiday Doggie Biscuit Sale has begun. The homemade peanut butter doggie treats will be for sale Monday Dec 8 through Thursday Dec. 18 during Roberts Street Elementary School's regular book store hours Tuesday 11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m., Wednesday 1:30 to 2:05 p.m. and Thursday 12:10 to 12:40 p.m.

These doggie "delicacies" are priced at 50 cents for two.

All proceeds from the sale go directly to Wanderer's Rest Humane Association.

It is tradition for sixth graders at Roberts Street to conduct a school-wide food drive that will benefit the needy in the Canastota community. This year the drive will take place Dec. 8 through Dec. 12.

The district asks Roberts Street students to contribute non-perishable foods in collection boxes that are located in each homeroom. No glass containers.

The Opportunity Shop food pantry in the village has agreed to accept and distribute the collected food items.

Donations can be dropped off at the RSES office.
