Wrapped food in hand, a regular turns to Robbie Thompson on his way out the door: "As always, awesome." Another customer knocks knuckles with the longtime pizzeria owner: "See you later, buddy."
Robbie T, born in Corning, is the heart of Jamesville. He knows everyone who comes through his doors.
"I love talking to people and being part of the community," said Thompson, whose wife Christie is a Jamesville native. "I have the best customers in the world."
Thompson stands behind his words by taking an active part in local events such as bottle drives, school sports and the annual Earth Day cleanup. Customers describe him as one of the best guys around.
"He's the reason they do so well," said Ashley Whipple, Jamesville resident.
Besides Thompson's warm, inviting personality, customers can enjoy savory slices of pizza, crusty calzones, antipastos and mouth-watering chicken wings, particularly garlic -- a favorite among many. Steak subs are another hot item: "We sell a ton," he said.
When asked if he plans to open more shops, he smiled, and with a nod, answered no. Robbie T's Pizza began 22 years ago on East Seneca Turnpike, an immediate neighbor to the local post office. He moved the business 11 years later to its current location on North Street. That's where he plans to stay.
"I love being in Jamesville," he said. "I love everything about it."
