Cazenovia Schools offers workshop on communication styles.:Dec 4

Two years ago the Cazenovia School District Board of Education asked the Cazenovia community to provide feedback as to the effectiveness and quality of the school and school programs.

One area that respondents felt needed attention was improved communication. This year the school district made improved communication a top priority, and much training has been provided to school faculty to share new skills and knowledge in communication.

A similar workshop, "Communication Styles," will be offered to parents and community members on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the High School Library. This workshop is free and open to the public.

"Communication Styles" is designed to help parents and teachers have more effective communication. Research has shown that three-quarters of the people you relate to have a different "communication style" than you do - their pacing is different, their attention to detail is different, what motivates them is different and how they react under pressure is different. Style differences affect how parents and teachers participate in meetings, resolve problems and make decisions. Developing an understanding and appreciation of communication style differences can enhance most parent/teacher interactions.

Molly Gabor, the evening's guest speaker, is a senior trainer for Ridge Associates. Her work in Fortune 1000 companies across the country spans a range of industries including manufacturing, insurance, banking, telecommunications, high technology, petroleum, publishing, food and health care. This year she and her husband, Bob, have worked with the faculty of Cazenovia Schools on communication styles and communication skills. On Thursday, Dec. 4, she will share the same knowledge and strategies with area parents and community members. The event is free and open to all Cazenovia area residents.
