Making Christmas miracles in B'ville

Individuals have been working year-round to bring Christmas to everyone in Baldwinsville. Now they need your help.

"B'ville is a very caring community, we are noted for that," said Bonnie Kisselstein of the Baldwinsville Christmas Bureau, an organization that collects all types of donations during the Christmas season for needy families within the Baldwinsville Central school district.

This year there are 162 families and approximately 200 elderly registered through the Christmas Bureau. The organization is collecting toys, socks, toiletries, food, monetary donations and more, anything that you would use in your own home. They need to fill 111 stockings for boys and 124 stockings for girls; 56 baby bags; 157 totes for men and 215 totes for women. Kisselstein noted that due to the economical situation, there also seems to be a greater focus on food this year.

"In this economy, we need to help each other," she said. "This is how we get through the hard times."

The organization is also looking for volunteers to collect donations, sort items and accept donations at the drop-off desk.

For those who wish to donate, drop-off hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 20. Incidentally, this year the drop-off desk has moved to the Knights of Columbus on Elizabeth Street, across the street from Assembly of God. There are also collection boxes located throughout the community for charitable donations.

"Do something for someone else. That's what life is all about is helping others," Kisselstein said. "If you have it, donate it. If not, volunteer your time. We accept anything, no matter how small. We just need to help each other."
