Colgate announces concert series schedule
The 2008-09 Colgate Concert Series offers an eclectic mixture of outstanding performances. The majority of concerts take place on Sunday afternoons, starting at 3:30 p.m., in the Colgate Memorial Chapel on the Colgate University campus in Hamilton, NY. Most concerts are free and open to the public.
Colgate brings musicians of national and international stature to the community, programming music ranging from classical gems to the avant-garde. Highlights of this year s season include Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation Artist-In-Residence programs by Anonymous 4 and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, as well as a celebration of jazz by the Holly Hofmann/Mike Wofford Duo, sponsored by the Institute for Creative and Performing Arts. The spring semester brings two diverse dance programs: Vision of Sound, a collaboration of contemporary composers with SUNY Brockport's dance ensemble, and Harlequin Unmasked: Music and Dance of the Commedia Dell'Arte. The season also features performances of time-honored pieces by outstanding classically-trained musicians, with four full-size orchestra concerts, two chorus concerts and chamber music performances.
As the 2008-09 Colgate Concert Series begins, the Music Department bids a fond farewell to Roberta Healey, who has served as Colgate University's Concert Manager for twenty years. Roberta, who retires Aug. 1, has tirelessly managed the intricate details for the Music Department, including production of the ever-popular annual Chenango Summer MusicFest. Her dedication and warm smile will be greatly missed!
Taking over the helm of concert production will be Jessica Moquin, a graduate of SUNY Potsdam's Craine School of Music, who has most recently been working at the Earlville Opera House. Jessica comes to Colgate with a wealth of knowledge about music and her experience and lively personality will help you feel right at home when you attend one of the upcoming concerts at Colgate.
