Village receives donation from sportsmen for boat launch

By Willie Kiernan

The village of Cazenovia recently received a generous donation from the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs to help fund the new boat ramp at Lakeside Park.

"The village of Cazenovia was willing to open up its launch to non-village residents this year and as a result our board of directors has agreed to donate $1,000 to help them improve the launch facility" President Stephen Wowelko said.

According to Cazenovia Village Trustee and Parks Commissioner Thomas Tait the funding to replace the aged and poorly functioning boat ramp was not budgeted this fiscal year, and so the donation from this organization helped make the new and vastly improved boat ramp possible.

"The ramp is awesome!" Tait said.

The ramp was put in the week before July 4 by the DPW crew with help from volunteer Charlie Pace. The cost was a little under $5,000 in total. Gene Moseley provided the heavy equipment.

"It was installed at a better pitch (per DEC specs), is longer and is a massive slab of interconnected reinforced concrete," Tait said. "We have received rave reviews from the public!"
