B'ville: The sound of a cappella

No Xcuse members have the perfect sound.

This past Saturday, the group performed at their second annual concert to benefit the Syracuse Rescue Mission at the Syracuse Center for Performing Arts. The concert, titled A cappella for the Fellas, featured four different a cappella groups, Five to Life which is a gospel group from Syracuse, Inner Loop out of Rochester, Still in Progress, a group from SUNY Oswego, and No Xcuse, another group out of Syracuse.

No Xcuse, comprised of nine singers, features two from the Baldwinsville area. Larry Conley is a physician's assistant by day and bass singer by night and Jim Burns, is a retired social worker who sings tenor. The group also features Jim Edinger out from Tully, Shawn Reynolds from Liverpool, Brant Fagan and Bob Amidon, both of Lafayette, John Finkenstandt of Brewerton, Seth Hill from Mattydale, and Michael Gay coming all the way from Rochester. The group also features current West Genesee Vice Principal Laura Norris, who is the accompanist.

The group sings all different types of music from the 1920's to the present. Some songs they sang for Saturday's concert included "My Girl" and "Another Day in Paradise," which was sung with a slide show.

This group has performed at various locations and events including the Syracuse Home in Baldwinsville, graduation parties, Liverpool Arts Festival, The Taste of Baldwinsville last year, and many local bars around the area such as the Waterfront, Chubbys, and the Dinosaur BBQ. They are looking forward to singing at other various locations and hoping to get a gig at Paper Mill Island this summer. Check out their web site for upcoming performances at noxcusemusic.com.

The group is also encouraging highly talented and motivated people to join. If you are interested in joining this all-male group, e-mail Seth Hill at srh4439@gmail.com.
