The Heart Health Awareness Program will be held Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Skaneateles Community Center.
This will be the second year for the program to be offered at the Skaneateles Community Center. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in this country with Stroke being third. Early detection and aggressive treatment has saved thousands of lives of productive people.
The program will include speakers and volunteers from area hospitals.
Crouse Hospital will be offering a FREE health screening. This includes blood pressures, history, blood sugar, and cholesterol testing. Results will be received that day. No fasting is necessary. We do require pre registration by calling Crouse Health line 472-2464. This is limited to 70 participants.
Mike Allain RN, Nurse Manager of University Hospital, Stroke Unit that will discuss the FAST, Signs, symptoms of Stroke and what to do if you are experiencing stroke symptoms.
Dr. Anis Obeid, MD, a prominent Syracuse Cardiologist will discuss Hypertension, and Cardiac Risks, including Atrial Fibrillation.
Did you know that leg pain can be an early marker for Coronary Artery Disease? Michael Costanza, MD, a vascular surgeon from University Hospital will discuss Peripheral Vascular Disease.
If you have an emergency at home will you know what to do? SAVES has a new program that will be presented on this topic. Everyone needs to hear this talk by Jeff Van Beveran, Paramedic and Jerry Shinamen, EMT.
Diabetes Educator, Ellen Crehan, NP, CEA from Crouse Hospital will be available to discuss Diabetes, answer your questions and share her knowledge of this complicated disease.
Time to quit smoking. University Hospital will be offering tips on smoke cessation and offering pulmonary function studies to assess breathing.
Exhibits and vendors will be offering heart health related topics, products and activities.
