Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium at CW Baker High School in Baldwinsville came alive Saturday with the sounds of
brass, percussion and woodwinds filling the air.
Six high school field bands representing Onondaga, Oswego and Madison counties came together for the annual Baldwinsville Bees Marching Band Home Show. The competition, titled "Fantasy of Sound," was aptly portrayed by music, costuming and color presentations. Interpreting compositions ranging from "Thriller" by Michael Jackson to "Dance Bacchinale" by Camille Saint Seans, the performance entertained a large and enthusiastic crowd. Baldwinsville's entry was titled "Fate" and was based on Greek Mythology.
The show opened with the singing of the National Anthem by graduating senior and Baldwinsville band member Jason Ott. The bands then took the field in competition and the entire pageantry lasted approximately 90 minutes.
At the conclusion, and before the marching units massed for the announcing of scores and presentation of awards, 23 seniors and band members from Baker were honored.
This annual event marks the halfway point in the fall field marching season for these Central and Western New York bands leading to the finals at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse at the end of October. The bands that competed included Baldwinsville, Auburn, Central Square, Webster, West Genesse High School, and Liverpool.
