Lysander resident Milt Bilyeu gave his town 32 years of dedicated service.
The town recently honored this public servant with a street name dedication in a ceremony held last Friday at the town hall. About 50 people attended the celebration including current and former town employees, family, friends and public servants.
"Milt has done wonderful things for this community," said Senator John DeFrancisco who attended the ceremony. "It's the least that other political leaders can do to come out and honor him."
From 1963 to 1995, Milton G. Bilyeu "served the town of Lysander and its citizens with honor and distinction" first as a member of the Lysander planning board (1963-1984), then as town supervisor (1984 to 1995).
Supervisor Barry Bullis read from a proclamation presented to Bilyeu.
"The town of Lysander has prospered greatly with the assistance and dedication of Milton G. Bilyeu as a member of the planning board and as town supervisor," Bullis read. "The roadway heretofore known as Glacier Ridge Road North within the community known as Radisson in the town of Lysander be renamed, and shall hereafter be known as, Bilyeu Lane."
When asked how he felt about the dedication, Bilyeu said, "It's pretty amazing." He added that he didn't regret his years of service.
