Plans for a Nice 'N Easy store to replace Southwood's Chip's Deli have been withdrawn.
"The rumor everyone is hearing is true," said Southwood resident Howie Reals Jr. in an email to area neighbors. "Nice 'n Easy has broken its contract to purchase Chips, due to community opposition."
Reals said that he heard the news from a "personal friend of Chip's, among other sources."
At an Aug. 1 informational meeting organized by Reals, about 200 concerned Southwood residents and local officials gathered at the Southwood Firehouse to voice complaints about the plan. There was no official zoning change proposal given to the town board.
Reals congratulated a great community in his message, and gave a special thanks to the people and families who were involved in the opposition.
