For the first time in its 40-year history, the US Small Business Association (SBA) honored Anaren Inc. with the "2007 National Subcontractor of the Year" award.
According to the SBA, the award "honors small businesses that have provided the government and industry with outstanding goods and services."
A leader in microwave and RF Technology, Anaren designs and manufactures complex components and subsystems for the defense, satellite and wireless infrastructure and consumer electronics market.
Raytheon Missile Systems, based in Tucson, Ariz., originally nominated Anaren at the regional level for SBA Region II that includes New York and New Jersey. Its nomination stems from Raytheon's long-term customer relationship with the company.
Anaren was then selected by the SBA among 10 regional nominees to be the national winner.
"This is really a distinct and very, very high honor," said Congressman James Walsh, who attended the company's Oct. 15 celebratory event. "To be named number one out of all the subcontractors dealing with the federal government is truly remarkable."
