Boards: Lysander receives grant

Lysander will receive $90,000 to use toward Canton Woods Senior Center.

Supervisor Barry Bullis applied for a Community Development grant for the senior center to use for furnace replacement and repairs. The town has to match 25 percent of the monies.

Community Development grants are available to municipalities with eligible zones, which are dependent on income. In Lysander, there are no eligible residential zones, but Bullis was able to apply for the funds for the senior center, even though the center is located in the town of Van Buren.

"All we have is Canton Woods, so why not help out our seniors," Bullis said.

Van Buren is using Community Development grants to make road and drainage repairs in Seneca Knolls.
