B'ville hires environmental attorney

The village of Baldwinsville has retained the services of attorney Doreen Simmons of Hancock and Estabrook, a law firm in Syracuse.

Mayor Joe Saraceni reviewed three possible candidates for the position, choosing Simmons because of her combination of environmental and municipal expertise and interest in Baldwinsville.

"She likes what's going on in Baldwinsville," Saraceni said.

The village has retained Simmons for a flat fee of $3,000. Simmons will advise the village of potential legal obligations and repercussions regarding the 12 Lock St. property, former site to the department of public works that is now a potential brown field site.

"It sounds like a sound investment," said Trustee Bruce Stebbins. "I urge that we move this forward."

The village has received interest from a couple of different parties regarding development of the site.
