In a solid effort last Monday afternoon, the Chittenango track and field teams pulled off a sweep over Homer. The girls Bears prevailed, 86-51, while the Chittenango boys beat the Trojans by a similar 84-57 margin.
Three times, Marshay Zamlowski won in the girls meet, taking the triple jump (30 feet 9 1/2 inches) and long jump (14 feet 10 1/4 inches), while also running the 100-meter dash in 13.3 seconds to beat that field.
Kaylee Greene also had three titles, all in short races. She ran 200 meters in 28.8 seconds, claimed the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.5 seconds, and won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:13.2. Greene and Zamlowski combined with Ashley Chase and Marjorie Pulver to win the 4x100 relay in 55 seconds flat.
Jessica Johnson swept the throwing events, taking both the discus (73 feet 8 inches) and shot put (26 feet 8 1/2 inches). Michelle Brandt won the 3,000-meter run in 11:26.5 to keep Homer's Heather Wilson from claiming all the distance races, as Wilson won both the 800 and 1,500.
Meanwhile, in the boys meet, Dima Tarasevich won every distance race. He covered 800 meters in 2:23.3, ran the mile in 5:03.8, and found enough time and endurance to take the 3,200-meter event in a time of 11:17.8.
Mike Bohne took a pair of sprints, the 100-meter dash (12.0 seconds) and 200-meter dash (25.0 seconds), while Matt Benjamin needed 57.2 seconds to prevail in the 400-meter dash.
Bruce Gondeck earned more valuable points as he took both the triple jump (33 feet 10 1/2 inches) and high jump (5 feet 1 inch), and Mike Marsh prevailed in the discus, throwing it 96 feet 11 inches.
Chittenango also took two of the three relays, prevailing in the 4x400 (4:50.1) and 4x800 (9:30.0) as Tarasevich, Benjamin, Tyler Freunscht and Brian Maum helped out.
