In separate locales on Monday afternoon, the top pitchers at Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse continued to roll.
Aaron Schuldt, the Warriors' junior ace, and Pat Corbin, the senior lefty that anchors the Northstars' staff, both produced impressive efforts.
Beginning what promises to be a crucial week of games, Liverpool scraped out a 2-1 home victory over the Auburn Maroons on Monday afternoon.
Schuldt, who beat Oswego 4-0 in his previous outing on April 24, was back on the mound, dueling with Auburn's Mike Assmann. Other than Steve Just's solo home run in the bottom of the second, the Warriors could not solve Assman in the game's first six innings.
The Maroons tied it 1-1 in the top of the fourth, but Schuldt allowed nothing more as he piled up 17 strikeouts against one walk and five hits, and went the route.
In the bottom of the seventh, with the game still 1-1, Liverpool put the decisive run in scoring position, and Dom Caruso's clutch single to the right side brought home that winning run.
As this was going on, CNS was staying unbeaten, moving to 9-0 with (fittingly) a 9-0 romp over Rome Free Academy.
Corbin won for the second time in less than a week and improved to 4-0 for the season. He allowed six hits and two walks, but escaped numerous jams with 10 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, the Northstars used four runs in the top of the third inning off RFA pitcher Garrett Baker to take the lead, then got five more runs in the top of the seventh.
Dave Kernan led the way, going deep for a home run on his way to a three-for-four afternoon that included three RBIs. Shawn Moonan doubled and drove in two runs, while Joe Ilacqua also had two RBIs. Patrick O'Brien also drove in a run.
At 9-0, the Northstars hoped the rain would hold off, so it could try and break up F-M's seven-game win streak Tuesday at Gillette Field, all before games against Corcoran, Carthage and Auburn.
Liverpool (7-5-1, 4-0-1 league) hopes to get in games against Baldwinsville, Fayetteville-Manlius, Rome Free Academy and Fowler in the week ahead.
