B'ville: Education and fun, all in one

Ready for some family fun? Head to Word of Life Christian Academy's family fun night this Friday.

Family fun night is the brainchild of WOL's Parent Teacher Fellowship and was designed to give families a night they can enjoy with the entire family. Celebrating the second year of the event, organizer Lisa Power anticipates a positive reception from the community.

"We have had great support from the community for all of our events," Powers said. "We expect attendance to grow."

Everyone is invited to attend the evening, which includes a barbecue dinner with hot dogs and hamburgers, sides, beverage and make-your-own sundaes. Children's activities include face painting, a Scholastic Book Fair, crafts and more.

"It is a great time for families to get together while children engage in some of the activities," Powers said.

All proceeds from the event will help cover costs as the school expands. The Word of Life school opened in 2003 with a two class preschool program, one for 3 year olds and one for 4 year olds. According to Powers, the education program hasn't stopped growing since.

"Each year we have grown and added grades," Powers said. "We offer a four day Pre-K program and a full day kindergarten through fourth grade. Next year, we will continue to expand with the addition of fifth and sixth grade."

All of the classrooms will be open for parents and children to tour during the event. Proceeds from the Scholastic Books Fair will help to put more books in the WOL classrooms and library.

"The foundation of all of our classes is to be able to offer children a fun and exciting learning atmosphere in a safe environment," Powers said. "We hope everyone goes home feeling they had a great time at a good price."

Family Fun Night will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at 12 Oneida St. in Baldwinsville. The event is open to the public and tickets are $5 per person with all proceeds benefiting Word of Life Christian Academy and Preschool. To register for the school, call 638-8870.
