B'ville supports CNY Waterways

Village officials voted in support of the Oswego River Basin Commission and the completion of three flood control projects sought by CNY Waterways.

The projects include installing a bladder dam next to the floodgate in Baldwinsville, installation of slide gates at the Phoenix dam on the Oswego River and removal of remnants of the old Caughdenoy Dam. According to Maureen Doyle of CNY Waterways, the three projects (with an estimated cost of $7 million) would improve water flow and drainage from the Finger Lakes region to Lake Ontario and would decrease the chances of flooding.

Last year, flooding caused numerous closings along the Erie Canal and connected waterways, hurting the tourism industry.
