Civil War flag restored

Now 145 years old, the flag's paint is cracked throughout, and there is a gray, sooty soiling covering most of the blue silk. It cost $4,000 to sponsor the preservation of the flag, which the 122nd and members of the Jewish community raised money for. The flag stands as not only a tribute to the men who risked or lost their lives in the Civil War, but also for the Jewish community's steadfast patriotism that supported American values then and still does today.

Although it is impossible to display all 11 flags at one time, Ciarpelli invites any group or individual wanting to see all 11 flags to request a viewing by calling the county clerk's office at 435-2227 to make an appointment.
