Pictures of Solvay needed for new book

If you are one of many who have read and enjoyed the first two editions of "Solvay Stories," get ready for another, because Judith La Manna Rivette is at it again.

"I must be slightly crazy because I have decided to produce 'Solvay Stories III,'" said La Manna Rivette "I'm hoping for completion of Solvay Stories III this summer, with sale anticipated this Fall."

As with the first two books, profits from the sales will go to help Solvay Public Library and its renovation.

La Manna Rivette needs help finding good, yet unpublished pictures from and about Solvay for her book.

"For 'Solvay Stories III: A Photo Journey Through Time,' I want to collect photos of places in Solvay," La Manna Rivette. "Older photo images are wished-for, preferably of places with few people (who maybe can be identified) or a large group of people (and probably none can be identified)."

Sooner is better, no later than the end of June to submit pictures. These pictures are the kind that people have in an old photo album somewhere and wish others could see - like the front of Abelio's store on Cogswell Avenue, riding bikes around Solvay Pool, or some kids playing on school grounds. Pictures are also desired of factories and churches. Solvay Library has a collection of photos, which have become sort of a base for the book. But no doubt somewhere there is a family album that has "Uncle Tony" standing near the Asbury Methodist Church in 1940 or so, or possibly a picture of the huckster and his wagon in the old days.

Please drop off identified photos with return information in an envelope addressed to Judith La Manna Rivette at the Solvay Library.

She will take good care of the pictures and return them.
