Fishing fun in B'ville

Attention parents: don't miss a free fishing opportunity for your children this weekend, plus the chance to receive a free fishing pole.

Baldwinsville's annual fishing derby, sponsored by the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday at Mercer Park. The first 50 children to register at the chamber (50 Oswego St. in the village) will receive a free fishing pole. All children (ages 5 to 12 years old accompanied by a parent or guardian) are invited to attend the free event and will be eligible to win prizes for the biggest fish, smallest fish, most fish, least fish, first fish and last fish caught. Prizes will be given to two different age groups.

After the annual fishing derby, Baldwinsville's Blessing of the Fleet will be held at 2 p.m. followed by a pulled pork barbecue on Paper Mill Island. Tickets are available for purchase at the chamber office for $25 per person and include pulled pork, salt potatoes, salad, roll and beverage. The evening will conclude with a 6 p.m. concert featuring Emerald City and Kane.
