Lysander property cleaned up

It took an entire dumpster to clean up a property on High Road in Lysander Councilman Jack Krisanda said at last Thursday's board meeting.

Town officials voted in July to clean up the property after residents complained about it. Supervisor Barry Bullis received three bids for the clean up. Chris Porter of Phoenix came in with the lowest bid and was awarded the contract.

Krisanda, who visited the site and confirmed the health hazard the property posed, said in his 15 years of property maintenance he had never seen anything like the property on High Road.

"It was knee deep in garbage," he said, adding that he had to enter through the back door because the front door was surrounded by trash.

To cover the cost of cleanup, the board will place a lien on the property, which was recently foreclosed upon. The town is waiting for extermination bids to award a contract for pest control then plans to board up the home.

Lysander requests reports from employees

Town employees will be required to provide a roughly two-paragraph report regarding the benefits and merits of seminars, conferences and training programs they attend, which the town either pays for or reimburses them for.

The subject was addressed after a request was made for Comptroller David Rahrle to attend the New York State Government Finance Officer's seminar Aug. 8 and 9 in Alexandria Bay. The cost for registration, lodging and meals is $165.

Councilman Art Levy voted against the resolution as he proposed employees turn in reports last year and has yet to see regular submission of reports. Councilor Brian May said the policy is written into the new Lysander employee handbook, which has yet to be approved by the board.

The board resolved to send Rahrle to the conference as long as he submits a report on the benefits of Aug. 8 and 9 conference and all conferences he's attended in 2007.

Public hearing scheduled

A public hearing regarding improvements to the Stanford Drive pump station will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday Aug. 23 at the Lysander Town Hall at 8220 Loop Road.
