B'ville: House call: the photographer's in

Getting your photograph taken as a child is a time honored tradition and a rite of passage.

To ensure images are genuine, whether it be the awe on a little boy's face as he admires a Christmas tree or a pet quietly soaking in the summer sun, HorseCents Photography captures the moment in the most comfortable (and natural) setting.

"I don't have a studio. Everything I do is in the client's setting. I like taking children and putting them in their own settings. Then you have pictures of real moments and real situations instead of creating them. It's what they're really doing and what really makes them happy," said Mary Beth Lovejoy, owner of HorseCents Photography in Baldwinsville.

Established in February, Horsecents Photography is named as an homage to Lovejoy's love of horses. She owns two and loves photographing them too. She also loves photographing children and has booked plenty of weddings and events.

"I've always loved taking pictures of people and animals. They interact with you and you see something. A flower doesn't care when you take its picture," she said.

Lovejoy has been experimenting with photography for at least 20 years, but only recently decided she would make her love of photography her career as well. Previously, Lovejoy worked for the Baldwinsville Central School District in finance, so when she decided to start her own business, she was confident that she had enough of that kind of background to do so.

"I obviously gave up a pretty decent income to pursue this," Lovejoy said. "I absolutely love doing it. You don't need to know the people well in order to capture emotion and love."

Lovejoy has worked with clients in Canastota, Central Square and Baldwinsville and is looking for more clients eager to capture their family's memories. And those memories include those of pets as well.
