The Skaneateles community is invited to the annual Summertime with the Syracuse Symphony Pops concert Wednesday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Austin Park Pavilion, 97 State St. in Skaneateles. Children and parents should come at 6 p.m. to explore the instrumental petting zoo -- a new feature of a rousing musical evening intended to introduce youth to instruments they might one day study.
To further inspire chidren, two recent high school graduates who received $1,000 sholarships from the Skaneateles Symphony Guild will be introduced. Meghan Clary will continue her voice lessons while majoring in Latin at Hamilton College, with plans to become a teacher. Alex Frackenpohl doesn't think he can take his violin to Japan for the year. He is a Rotary exchange student but he hopes to have many opportunities to play and then will attend Colgate University in the fall of 2008. Both students auditioned before professional musicians chosen by the guild.
The public is encouraged to picnic before the concert and to consider a voluntary price of admission of a donation of toiletries, non-perishable food items or cash for the Ecumenical Food Pantry. Supporters of the Skaneateles Symphony Guild will also have a chance to see instruments for the guild purchase for our Music for the Schools Program.
