Skaneateles Artisans announces grand opening

New fine art/fine craft gallery space is in former McLaughlin's building on Fennell Street.

Skaneateles Artisans, LLC, announces the Grand Opening of their artist-owned and operated gallery on July 19 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Located at 11 Fennell St. in the former McLaughlin's department store building in Skaneateles, the shop is devoted to showcasing and selling a unique blend of high-quality art of a wide variety of mediums. Created by more than 30 Skaneateles-area/eastern Finger Lakes artists, the art on display includes fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, mosaics, paintings, photography, pottery, wearables, wood, and more. Special participants at the opening will include wine tastings provided by King Ferry Winery, and flute and guitar performances by Festive Music (Marg De Palma and Bob Vanderhoof).

This shop also features artwork from several artists who are members of the successful Cazenovia Artisans Gallery located at 39 Albany Street, in Cazenovia.

"The opportunity for a venue like this in Skaneateles for artists to display their work came together so quickly," said Amy Lee, a potter and mosaic artist from Jordan who is one of the founding members of the gallery. "Just eight weeks ago, hardly any of us knew each other, but that quickly changed as all of us joined forces and began meeting frequently to organize the business issues, and to collaborate on sprucing up the interior and exterior of the building. We couldn't have done this without the expertise and help of the Cazenovia artists. Rather than reinvent the wheel, they have been so willing to share with us their experiences and guidance."

The gallery hopes to become a destination for both locals and tourists seeking locally made fine art and fine craft to decorate their homes, give as gifts, or to purchase as a momento of their trip to the Finger Lakes.

They also plan on hosting monthly events, which will include featured artists (both members of the co-op, and up-and-coming and established area artists who may not be members), and music performances.
