In order to make all floors of the building accessible to members of the community who wish to participate in services, St. Michael's Lutheran Church on West Genesee Street in Camillus recently completed construction on two major projects.
First, an elevator was installed that serves the main floor narthex and sanctuary and the lower level Fellowship Hall and educational wing. A chair lift was also installed that serves the main floor and the choir loft. These two projects will be dedicated during the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday Feb. 11. The community is invited to join the congregation at the service for the dedication.
These projects were part of an ongoing capital campaign that led into the 50th Anniversary celebration of the congregation. Making the building accessible to all who wish to participate in services and the fellowship opportunities on the lower level have long been a priority for the congregation.
In addition, the choir is an important part of the ministry at St. Michael's and making the loft accessible to those needing additional help navigating the stairs was also a priority. The 50th anniversary of the formation of St. Michael's gave the congregation an extra reason to implement these changes that enhance the worship and fellowship experiences at the church. The 50th anniversary celebration began in June 2006 with a kick-off picnic. A special Advent service and concert on December 9, and festival worship and anniversary dinner on December 10, commemorated the actual weekend 50 years ago when the congregation was founded. The 50th anniversary celebration will continue with special events through December 2007.
Services of Holy Communion at St. Michael's Lutheran Church are at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. every Sunday, with Sunday school at 9:15 a.m. and coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the 10:30 service.
