B'ville: Building community

The Word of Life Assembly of God believes building community is an important element to strengthening Baldwinsville as a whole -- so much so, the church has organized a free family event for everyone to enjoy.

With the help of sponsors Bruin Computers, Summit and Kevin Bruno, Inc., WOL will host an event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday Aug. 26 that features free entertainment, rides, food, drawings and more on Paper Mill Island.

"We have offered something unique in that we are not doing this as a fund-raiser or to make a profit; this is a service to the community with much to be given away," said Rev. Joshua Czyz of Word of Life. "It's an opportunity for the community to come together and support one another. We hope to see people walking away from the event feeling good about their community."

Czyz is part of a seven-member committee that helped to coordinate the event. The committee includes Czyz and the three other pastors at WOL, Rev. Randy Czyz, Rev. Claude Valdes and Rev. Serese Zollo, in addition to Event Director Matthew Cullipher, Karen Hart and MaryAnn Czyz. The group wanted to offer a safe family style event with a very low cost for all to enjoy.

"Though there are many great events in our community, we feel we've come up with a rather unique event," Czyz said. "We've also provided something for families that may find it difficult to afford some of the other events."

By teaming up with local businesses, event organizers achieved their goal of a low- to no-cost event and hope to continue the partnership to make the festival an annual occasion.

"Due to the many generous donations of local businesses and Word of Life members, this event is shaping up to be the premier family event of the summer," Czyz said.
