Add two more names to the list of softball teams victimized by Jordan-Elbridge superstar Colleen Ryan.
And for the Eagles, none of those names was bigger than Homer, which brought a powerful hitting attack into last Thursday’s game with the Eagles, but walked out with total frustration as Ryan produced a 1-0 shutout win.
Much of the game was a 0-0 deadlock, as Ryan and Homer’s Danielle Swarm. Ryan’s strong arm assured that power-hitting Homer catcher Stephanie Hartquist (who had two home runs in her team against East Syracuse-Minoa) wouldn’t get a good pitch.
For the game, Ryan allowed two hits, and Swarm matched her until the bottom of the sixth, when J-E poked across a run and Ryan earned credit for the RBI.
Two days earlier, the Eagles rode Ryan’s strong arm and stronger bat to a 2-0 victory over the Warriors last Tuesday afternoon.
Ryan, just as she would with Homer, earned a two-hitter, striking out 14. She also pounded out three of the Eagles’ six hits, driving in a run as Lindsey Geary was also credited with an RBI.
This followed a forced period of inactivity where the Eagles’ scheduled tournament on April 7 was pushed back a week by the lingering winter conditions.
