The road and drainage project for the Seneca Knolls development has been put on hold as town officials wait to here whether the town will receive sales tax money from Onondaga County.
Supervisor Mary Crego said although she sent the paperwork in, the county was unaware Van Buren was taking the sales tax money, an option that is available to every municipality in the county to supplement their budget.
"We will have to hold off (on the Seneca Knolls project) until we know the money is forthcoming," said councilor Claude Sykes, who is on the public works committee.
According to officials, if the town is to receive the funds from county, the money should come in April.
Town engineer Jim Billings added the town still has $100,000 in community development money that is earmarked for the Seneca Knolls road project. The town will wait to hear from the county before scheduling an informational meeting regarding the project.
Van Der Water removed from parks committee
Councilor Wendy Van Der Water was removed from the town of Van Buren parks committee after voting against promoting Cathy Perkins to Van Buren's parks and recreation director and questioning the appointment.
Supervisor Mary Crego made the change to the committee after Van Der Water opposed the promotion. After six of the seven board members voted Perkins to the position, Van Der Water questioned why the board didn't pull a civil service list and why the position was not posted for 10 days as town policy requires. She also said Perkins should be placed on a mandatory probation period.
