Two Skaneateles village businesses moved this year, one from Genesee to Jordan and one from Jordan to Genesee; both with the same results
Bella Blue (beautiful blue), a woman's clothing and accessories store moved from 32 West Genesee St. in the Sherwood House to 6 Jordan St. right next door to Doug's Fish Fry. One might not readily associate high fashion with fried food, but the move has been in owner Robin North's words, "Tremendous."
People stop in weekly that said they had always come out to Skaneateles to shop and had never heard of Bella Blue. Plus many locals said they knew we were here but hadn't had the chance to stop in to our old location.
"It's an easier location for people," North said. "The window makes a big difference."
The North's had to make a reinvestment as the shop was closed for a couple of months during the move, but it was well worth it. It closed at the end of last year and reopened on March 7.
North, an SCS graduate, said dresses are big this fall as are fun accessories. And don't forget she also carries a line of handmade baby clothes (see window).
In a reverse move
Grant Jewelers, which resided at 33 Jordan St., made the reverse move of Bella Blue. Reginald "Reg" and Tamara' Grant's store is now located on East Genesee Street in Legg Hall. The move has resulted in a similar spike in sales. Reg said some days while up the street on Jordan, he sometimes wouldn't have a customer come in all day. With this location on Genesee, people will contact him to make a purchase from walking by the window the previous night and there is a steady stream of walk in traffic during the season. He took finds the window a great assest.
Grant operates as a jewelry designer and maker with Reg at the bench; a retailer for other artists; and a repair shop. Tamara does all the merchandising and helps Reg in design. For more information contact 291-3135 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
