Residents of Mills Road are seeking the formation of a water district.
Joyce Snow, joined by several Mills Road residents, asked the Lysander town board to consider forming a water district on the road that runs along the Seneca River. According to residents, 15 of the approximately 20 residents on the road are interested in the formation.
Up until recently, residents collected water from wells. After those dried up, some residents resorted to using river water.
Officials said because Mills Road is a private road, a right-of-way would need to be created in order to provide water. Officials also noted that the more households interested in the formation of a water district, the lower the cost per unit.
The request is under consideration.
