B'ville boys soccer survives C. Square in OT

Another Tuesday night -- and another instance where the Baldwinsville boys soccer team found itself in overtime on its home turf.

But unlike its riveting Oct. 3 loss to Cicero-North Syracuse, the Bees came out in front this time, fighting off the challenge of the Central Square Red Hawks in a 3-2 decision that produced a bit of history.

This nearly turned into a damaging upset. Central Square had a 1-0 lead at the break thanks to Travis Cleavenger's goal, and Cleavenger scored again in the second half to answer Nate Bourdeau's tally.

As regulation time wound down, B'ville trailed, 2-1. Sensing the urgency, B'ville waged an all-out attack -- which paid off when Colin Hack poured in the tying goal with a minute left in regulation.

Again playing in sudden death, the Bees kept pushing. With 21 seconds left in the first of two 10-minute OT periods, Bourdeau got open and poked a shot past Central Square goalie Colin Desmond to win it.

With that goal, Bourdeau, just a junior, tied the school record for career goals, as his total now stands at 53. Ryan Evans had two assists, while Sean St. Denis, Nick Hyde and Paul Klopher all earned assists, too.
