Betterment Association to keep lighting the way

The Marcellus village board agreed at the Monday Sept. 25 board meeting to extend the Marcellus Betterment Association for another year. The association was established to focus on betterment issues in and around the village. It is best known for the historic lighting fixtures that now line village streets.

The MBA is planning to install lampposts on the intersecting streets on South Street before winter, and is still in need of donations.

"Our goal is to do the North Street intersecting streets in conjunction with when the state does the North Street project in the spring (2007)," committee member Diana Bird said. "We have had some graduating classes donate (1975 and 2006 enough for a line each and 1984 a sizable donation)," Bird said.

The MBA would like to ask the other graduating classes of Marcellus High School, if they would also care to contribute. Bird said it would be great to have the poles located at Mustang Hill, Learners Landing and Reed Parkway, all be donated by various graduating classes or school organizations including the PTO, Athletic groups and more.

The MBA is also interested in new members. To inquire about joining the committee, contact Karen obinson or Diana Bird 673-0774.
