North Syracuse policeman will face grand jury

Sgt. Daniel Keefe, the village of North Syracuse police officer who was charged last week with falsifying time sheets, will stand before a county grand jury, according to Onondaga County District Attorney's Office.

Keefe's case was waved to the grand jury on Monday, Nov. 28. Keefe, of Brewerton, was scheduled to appear in front the village court.

"The case is apparently too big for this court," a village court official said.

If convicted, Keefe, a 19-year veteran of the police force, could face up to four years in prison.

Keefe was arrested Nov. 17 by Onondaga County District Attorney investigators after a month-long investigation. He was also charged with one count official misconduct, a misdemeanor.

North Syracuse Mayor John Heindorf said he wanted to see how everything fleshed out before commenting on the matter.
