Camillus-Police Department receives MADD Award

Onondaga County, Chief Thomas M. Winn takes great pride in reporting that the town of Camillus Police Department has been awarded the 2005 to 2006 New York Law Enforcement Challenge Mother Against Drunk Driving Award (MADD), sponsored by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice.

This is the third year in a row that the Camillus Police Department has been selected as the recipient for this prestigious award and is one of only nine agencies in New York to be recognized for this award.

"The committee has said that they do not want to give the award to the same department more than once, so it is an honor to be recognized three times in a row for our outstanding numbers," Winn said.

On Nov. 14 Chief Winn, Captain Steve Rotunno and Sergeant James Whelan represented the Camillus Police Department at an award luncheon held in Schenectady.

The Camillus Police Department was honored for its comprehensive application that reflected a highly effective traffic safety program that incorporates policy, enforcement, public information, education, recognition, and evaluation in the area of DWI and under age drinking.

"I have to congratulate all of the officers who make DWI a priority during their patrols," Winn said. "We have not had a DWI related death in years."
