Parker said the project is focused on families with children in the school district. She describes the families they serve as the working poor who are trying to do what they can with little. Living in a rural community requires a car and gas, big expenses that are often necessary to maintain their jobs.
"We ease the burden," Parker said.
Each elementary age child is given a warm hat and mittens, a couple of toys, age-appropriate books, games and stocking stuffers. More than 80 families are recommended by local agencies and are invited to the distribution on a Saturday in early December.
Anyone willing to donate new items or money toward the purchase of gift items is encouraged to write a check to Judy Parker and mail it to P.O. Box 266, Morrisville, NY 13408.
