B'ville Rotary delivers dictionaries

Third graders throughout the Baldwinsville Central School District received a lifelong gift last Friday from members of the Baldwinsville Rotary Club.

For the fourth year, Rotarians delivered dictionaries to each third grade student at Elden, McNamara, Palmer, Reynolds and Van Buren elementary schools and at St. Mary's Academy.

Rotarian Mindy Taylor is the coordinator for the Baldwinsville dictionary project, a program that was developed in 1999 as a literacy initiative in California. Since becoming involved, the Baldwinsville Rotary Club has purchased distributed dictionaries with funds raised from the Seneca River Days Duck Race.

Taylor and Rotarian Jacqueline Olmsted delivered the gifts to McNamara where Taylor told the children about local rotary programs such as the annual senior Christmas Party and the Seneca River Days. Olmsted shared international efforts with the children such as a program that teaches families how to purify water.
