The Van Buren board approved a 2007 contract with the Memphis Fire Department.
Because the department serves both the towns of Van Buren and Camillus, the financials are split accordingly between the two municipalities. By dividing the assessments between Camillus and Van Buren of properties served by the fire department, Van Buren is responsible for $87,818 of the $108,600 contract.
According to department officials, there is a 3 percent increase from last years contract due to a 10 percent increase in insurance costs for the department.
According to Supervisor Mary Crego, the Van Buren tax rate for the department went down probably due to increased assessments in the serviced area.
